More Than a Job: SCA Launches Entrepreneurial Training Program to Empower Local Dreamers

For many in rural North Carolina, finding stable, meaningful employment can be challenging, but what if the opportunity was already within? The Sandhills Cooperation Association (SCA) believes that innovation and self-sufficiency are key to long-term community growth. That’s why the organization has launched a new Entrepreneurial Program under its More Than a Job initiative, a hands-on, empowering experience designed to help local residents turn their passions into thriving small businesses.

Through a mix of workshops, mentorship, and resource access, participants learn essential business skills such as branding, budgeting, marketing, and digital tools for success. More importantly, they’re connected with real opportunities, from vending at local events to networking with investors and community partners.

“The More Than a Job program is about more than income; it’s about independence, creativity, and legacy,” says Sherri Allgood, Executive Director of the Sandhills Cooperation Association. “We want to help people move from employment seekers to job creators.”

The program is open to individuals in Montgomery, Moore, Stanly, Richmond, and Randolph Counties who are eager to start or expand their businesses. Whether someone is launching a food service, boutique, or tech start-up, SCA’s Entrepreneurial Program offers the guidance and support to make that vision a reality.

Participants also gain access to resources through the Innovative Action Center (IAC), SCA’s hub for business development and community innovation, where they can find co-working space, business workshops, and networking events.
